How The Program Works

The Age Groups

Growing Little Heroes will go through development stages that require specific, tailored programs to get the best out of them and develop their confidence. Although the groups are divided by age, they are also dependent on the ability to listen, focus and work with other Kids in the class. These develop at different rates, so please speak to the head coach if you feel your Little Hero is ready for the next challenge early.

PROGRESSING:
THE BELT AND PATCH SYSTEM
Our system is specially designed to keep our Little Heroes motivated and challenged. Each level will require the mastery of specific skills (see Grading Requirements), physical and mental challenges. They also comply with the world standards (for example the IBJJF) within each art, so wherever you go in the world, your belt/level will be recognised.

Our Patches challenge the children to master certain skills as well as develop community consciousness. They will be rewarded with a Certificate and a Patch that they can put on their CV to help with future endeavours.

They Earn their Stripes in order to Grade

Every class, if the student achieves their goals and participates well, they will receive a Black stripe on their belt.

Once they have achieved 5 Black Stripes, they will receive 1 White Stripe.

Once they have been awarded 2 White stripes (A total of 10 black stripes), they will be eligible for the grading challenge.

Note for Parents: If they are not putting effort into their training that day or distracting others, we sometimes let them know they are not receiving a stripe that day. HOWEVER, if they make a double effort next class, they will earn two stripes!

What is the reward for achieving a belt?

Moving from Beginners to Advanced Martial Arts

Our classes are designed to keep your Little Hero motivated by giving them more advanced skills and challenges as they earn their way through the program. This helps them build goal setting and resilience.

They start Fundamentals and as they graduate through the belts they will unlock new classes, techniques and more.

The Leadership / Competition Team

Getting Ahead in life!

The Leadership Team is for the Heroes who want to get ahead and have demonstrated commitment, teamwork and grit.
As part of the team they will learn leadership skills, advanced martial arts techniques and be involved in leading the younger students. We also organise a community event every year where they get a chance to give back to the community. It is also a great way to keep their motivation high!

WHAT DO THEY WEAR?

THE JIU X JITSU UNIFORM

The Kimono or Gi is traditionally white or blue and made out of heavy cotton. It is designed to withstand years of training without tearing while simulating normal civilian clothes. Why do students all wear the same colour? Traditionally the Academy was a place of equality, where presidents can train next to plumbers, bankers next to students.

On the mat, everybody is equal and judged only by their behaviour on the mats. Each Kimono can be cut and adjusted to the individual’s body, just like the Art of Jiu-Jitsu, until it feels like a second skin.

When practising No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, the practitioners wear traditional Vale Tudo Shorts and Long sleeve rash guards, designed to protect the skin from friction. The outfit allows for a faster, more creative style of Jiu-Jitsu.

How do they tie their belt?
